Sadly, Canon Joe Dow passed away in the Larkfield Unit at Inverclyde Royal Hospital on Saturday 22nd April 2023. He died peacefully, fortified by the Rites of the Church. We thank the Lord for Canon Joe’s many years of faithful service to the Church and our diocese as we pray for his happy repose and the consolation of his family. We will share details of his Funeral Rites as they are arranged. Requiescat in pace.

Bishop John is delighted to announce that he has appointed Fr Daniel Fitzpatrick as Diocesan Chancellor, effective from the Wednesday of Holy Week. He also thanks Fr Eoin Patten for his work as Chancellor for the past nine years.

A Vocations Discernment Retreat at Pluscarden Abbey, 9 to 11 June 2023 For Catholics aged 18 to 35, both men and women. Talks to be given by Bishop Hugh Gilbert, Abbot Anselm Atkinson, and others, will invite Retreatants to think deeply about whether they are being called to some Vocation, or other service to God. How do they know that it is His voice speaking in their hearts? If they are being called, what should they do next? This collection is for the upkeep and repair of the fifty shrines that are dear to Christians and pilgrims the world over; and for the Church’s pastoral, educational, social and cultural mission in the Holy Land, including the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the Church of Mary and Joseph’s homes in Nazareth, Peter’s house in Capernaum, the Upper Room of the Last Supper and of Pentecost and the Church of the Calvary and the Holy Sepulchre.

The Easter Cemetery Mass will take place on Sunday 16th April, Divine Mercy Sunday, celebrated by Bishop John. All welcome. There will be a link available to be able to watch from home if you cannot participate in person.

The annual Acies ceremony of the Legion of Mary will be held in St Mirins Cathedral on the feast of the Annunciation, Saturday, 25th of March at 2pm. All active and auxiliary members are warmly invited to come along and renew their devotion to Our Lady for the year ahead. Refreshments will be available in the hall afterwards.

The Friends of Divine Mercy Scotland invite you to a Divine Mercy Mass at 7 p.m. followed by Adoration on Wednesday 29 March 2023. The mass will take place at St Mirin’s Cathedral for March only, it will be back at St Mary’s in April. All are welcome.

The proceeds of this collection are divided 75% to SCIAF and 25% to our new St Mirin’s Fund. SCIAF is the official aid and international development charity of the Catholic Church in Scotland. It works in sixteen countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America to help the poorest in the world, regardless of religion, to work their way out of poverty. The St. Mirin’s Fund awards small grants for good causes that promote the Kingdom of God among us, with special consideration to: children and young people, the elderly, those with disabilities and special needs, or suffering from poverty, mental illness, homelessness or refugees.

There will be mass followed by individual blessing with the mit/glove of Padre Pio. 20th March at 7pm in St. John’s, Barrhead and 23rd March at 7pm in St. Francis’, Port Glasgow.
